Biography
Tessa Brannan is an ESRC-funded PhD student in IPEG and Politics, supervised by Professor Gerry Stoker and Dr Francesca Gains. She was previously a Research Assistant at IPEG and continues to be involved in several projects in the institute.
Current and recent projects include:
- Examining the Use and Effectiveness of Best Practice in UK Local Government with Professor Peter John and Catherine Durose (both IPEG), and Professor Hal Wolman from George Washington University.
- Co-ordinating the Home Office 2004/05 Civil Renewal Research Programme with Professors Gerry Stoker and Peter John. An edited book which consolidates this research is due for publication later this year.
- The University of Manchester 'Get out the Vote Project' at the 2005 General Election with Professor Peter John. She was a facilitator at the recent practitioner seminar on raising voter turnout.
Her doctoral research is (provisionally) entitled: 'Sharing Local Authority Learning about 'Successful' Community Engagement: The Civic Pioneers Initiative' and examines some of the assumptions around 'best practice' and inter-organisational learning. The research also draws together Tessa's interests in community engagement and citizen participation, with her interests in policy making and evaluation.
Prior to working at IPEG, Tessa completed an MSC in Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2002.
