Biography
Rebecca Askew is a Research Assistant at IPEG. She graduated from the University of Manchester in 2005 with an M(Res) in Crime and Criminal Justice. Her undergraduate degree in Sociology BA (Hons) was obtained from Sheffield Hallam University in 2003. Rebecca has worked for Manchester City Council in Economic Development and Local Regeneration. She has also volunteered as a Research Assistant for a unique ESRC project on Manchester Youth Gangs at Manchester University . This is her first full-time research appointment since graduating.
Rebecca is currently working on the design-experiment evaluation research with two Local Authorities in the North West.
Blackburn with Darwen Council: an evaluation of an intervention aimed at reducing persistent and prolific offending. The intervention is based on a three pronged approach, which focuses on youth engagement, increased uptake of leisure activities and family support, targeted in a local estate. Rebecca is supporting the lead researcher Liz Richardson on the research and evaluation of this project.
Rebecca's main areas of interest are drug use and society, youth gangs and youth offending, drug use, policing and the law, government drug strategy, discourse analysis as a research method, comparative criminal justice and barriers to work, training and employment.
