Biography
Mike Artis is Professor of Economics, a co-Director of IPEG and Director of the Manchester Regional Economic Centre (MREC) located within IPEG. He has recently held a Professorship at the European University Institute, Florence (1995-2003) and a George Fellowship at the Bank of England (January-July, 2005). See his C.V. for full details.
Mike served as expert advisor to Subcommittee A of the House of Lords’ European Union Committee in its recent assessment of the Euro. The report of the sub-committee, published on 1 May 2008, can be accessed via http://www.parliament.uk/hleua/.
TopResearch Interests
His research interests lie in economic modelling and forecasting, the functioning of the Stability and Growth Pact and in various aspects of intra-national macroeconomics with special reference to the analysis of consumption risk-sharing, regional growth dynamics and economic policy. Most recently he has begun to apply some of his skills to issues of a local regional nature - including most importantly, the monitoring and forecasting of the regional economy of the North West of England and the analysis of the regional business cycle in the UK and in Japan.
