This project is looking at ways of building a high-frequency, topical and reliable indicator of economic activity at the regional level. The methods of construction that can be used are similar in principle to those that can be used at the national (or supra-national) level. A recent supranational example of such an indicator is the Euro-Coin for the Euro Area. Work on this project involves Michael Artis, Marianne Sensier of Manchester University and Wenda Zhang of Manchester Metropolitan University.

This project is being undertaken by the Manchester Regional Economics Centre (MREC).
