Project summary

This project will use a series of case studies to look at how different models of neighbourhood/community accountability work in practice. This can include a wide range of options such as parishes, charters, delegated budgets, calls for action, neighbourhood management, community ownership, co-located services, overview and scrutiny. We will want to link to the CfLG Community Leadership programme to access the case studies through elected members and officers that participate in the programme.

We will be able to look at how councillors operate their new and enhanced community leadership roles in neighbourhoods more closely through the case studies. We will explore how neighbourhood structures link upwards to strategic decision making and commissioning to ensure local government targets reflect local priorities. We will explore how structures are linked within neighbourhoods, and between neighbourhoods. We will include a special focus on the unique issues in rural areas. It will emphasise new roles for ward members.
