Gerry Stoker visited Beijing for a week at the invitation of the University of Science & Technology. He met a wide range of academics and held talks about future co-operation and research plans. In particular, the issue of public service reform and the reform of local governance were debated. Professor Stoker made a number of presentations to MPA and other postgraduate students.

In a further leg of the visit, Professor Stoker attended a workshop jointly organised by the World-Wide Universities Network and the University of Zhejiang. The workshop on Strategic Management in Urban Governance took place in Hangzhou. Further opportunities to work with colleagues in Zhejiang University were discussed.
