Applications in the Social Sciences
28 February 2007, 1:30pm - 5:30pm
Conference Suite, Harold Hankins Building
This workshop brings together scholars in the social sciences who are interested in structural equation models (SEM) to solve a range of quantitative research problems. SEMs are useful when the causal structure of the data is complex; they also allow the modelling of latent variables from groups of indicators. The workshop is mainly applied, presenting papers from current projects using SEMs, with the idea that participants can see the application of the method as well as enjoy the substantive applications. The workshop kicks off with a general introduction by the statistician Andrew Pickles followed by four papers, many of which focus on political behaviour, especially political participation, hence of particular relevance to the new Centre for Democracy and Elections (CDE).
